In this episode, we talk about a recent experience where Scott was almost the only one at an event who wore his mask while Oregon was still under the mask mandate. We talk through a list of ways someone might rationalize noncompliance with the mandate.
The mandate is over here in Oregon now. We waited until our restrictions were over and we tried to talk in a respectful way about this, but admittedly we may come across as self-righteous, which is, of course, not what we intended. While we do engage in speculation here, and cannot speak with certainty about why other people made their decisions, Scott did give some reasons why he wore his mask in those situations. Of those we are certain. Here are his reasons:
- It was still required. It was stated in the official program and on the door of the event, he was asked to comply with the mask mandate.
- He couldn’t help but think of the employees of the hotel and event venue who wore their masks because they were compelled to. He felt wearing the mask communicated love for his neighbor.
- After 2 years, his conscience was sensitive.
- Submission, patience, suffering, and everything like that are good for his character and make him long more for the redemption of our bodies.
- God, through his word, tells us to submit to the authorities.
