In this episode, we talk about the relationship Christians and the Church have with power. Every dictionary definition of “power” includes an entry on political power.

The relationship of the church to power is a spiritual issue. Here are the verses we referred to in this episode:

God possesses all power. Psalm 147:5-6 and Job 37:23

The Gospel and the Spirit are the sources of power. Acts 1:8 and Romans 1:16

God is unimpressed with the power of the nations. Psalm 2:1-4

God works contrary to power. 1 Corinthians 1:26-31

God exalts the humble and resists the proud. 1 Peter 5:5-7

The Sermon on the Mount represents a different ethic than power. Matthew 5:3-5

God’s power is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

Powers and authorities are represented both by spiritual beings and by governmental authorities. Romans 13:1-2, Romans 8:38-39, and Colossians 1:16.
